The Clutch is in the Pulley, Im betting if you wanted to retain it, it could be swapped over.

Why not just get a higher amp alt that fits the TBSS? Like one from Power Bastards or DC Power Inc

 

power bastards are not good and I have the 160 amp alt sitting next to me right now free if I can use it I will.

There is a guy on FB that has alternators he builds with more windings to bump our 145 A up to 250 A. I was curious if that will open up a new can of worms with that high of an output and the ECM/BCM trying to feed off of it? :dunno:

 

If it's the same guy, i bought a kit from him from my 95 Impala SS and had ZERO issues out if it. I think he sells as a complete kit you put together or you can just buy assembled.

I put on a 160 amp truck alternator ~ 6 months ago. IIRC, it was only ~ $120 new. Fit and worked perfectly. I'm not a fan of using giant alternators unless you have a giant stereo or something similar for them to feed (or some other high current source).

Did you change the pulley on the truck alternator. Mine has the clutch on the tbss alt.
