Look here.. There are many more links too but this is a pretty good thread. They are failing left and right.. There was even one naysayer who spoke out in the thread and then it ended up that his were broken too.

Yeah but these are a specific to springs bought in the last 6-10months or so.. They changed suppliers or something like that... and now problems are happening all over again. The original poster noticed a drop in power but there were some people who checked simply because of the thread and found out that they were driving on broken springs..

Heh yeah.. I meant the l92 heads with either the 921s or the cranes.. The spring from Crane is the same as the "old" 918.. you know.. the ones that DON'T break..

I bought all Manley stuff for the L92's including the stainless pro-cut valves.

This will give you a even better flow on L92's about 20% more & even more then that at lower lifts.
Be sure & get the HD Caddy lifters good to 8,000 rpm no float.

What people dont realize is springs are not a direct bolt-on. If you install them while the heads are on the car, you're just asking for trouble. They need to be installed at the proper height and seat pressure, or else you .600" lift springs may only be good for .580". We've installed probably close to 50 sets of 918s and have not had a set fail yet. The springs are mass produced, but done so by CNC, so the first one is like the last one. I will agree that there could be some flaw in the material used, and Im not doubting some have failed by defect, but I'm willing to bet most have failed from improper installation

Not to mention the crazy ramp rates and agressive lobes. A spring made 15 years ago would not even try to make it with the cams they use today. I remeber back when .550 lift was alot! talking about small block stuff here.

No.. Crane is fine as they did not change suppliers.. Thats where the bad batch came from. I guess comp has a history of doing this.. Making a good spring and then switching suppliers without notification to its end users and boom.. problems start to "spring' up. heh.. I hope I don't blow up either.. I don't think its necessarily a matter of that and thats the worst part. Some people in that thread did not notice anything wrong with their car - but when they pulled the valve covers they often saw broken springs - at least 3 in most cases.

No I mean Comp, my bad... I have batch 54524 in my truck now.. I do notice that my valvetrain noise has gone down... I need to pull a valve cover and check it out... If comp will give me a credit I am going with the 921's.. My dad's truck is with Andy right now getting the same set up as mine.. I think I will have Andy do the 921's on his as well for the peace of mind..

I had the Comp 918 springs in my Z28. I had Speed, Inc. install my cam, long tube headers, exhaust, new T-56, tune, and a bunch of goodies. The car ran like a raped ape, but after 3 weeks the engine came apart. I was racing a friends car, I was in 3rd gear, and I was at about 5500RPM when my motor started failing apart. I had a rod through my oil pan, one out the side of the block.. it was nasty!

The failure was from the Comp springs. Speed, Inc. said it appears that I overrevved the engine that caused them to break, but I know for a 100% fact that I didn't. I ended up throwing in a forged 348 and tossed a bunch of spray at it.

At the end of the day, I called Comp to complain and they offered to give me a free set of springs. I had to cover the other $8500 for the engine build. Needless to say, I told them to shove the valvesprings up their ass.

Crap.....I just put a set of 918's in my friends 5.3L that he put in his S-10. I hope they are going to be OK. He just has a mild cam though.

I don't think its specific to how big the cam is (unless its over the spec that the 918s can handle). Sorry man.. At least its not too hard to pull the covers and check. Although, I have not done this.
