Yes Kyle, the initial flash-over of the fumes was about 18-24", but your making it sound like it was this huge blaze or something. Despite the big fume flash-over, I dont think it was that bad in hindsight now. At the time it sucked, thats for sure. Not lying at all, I said there was a flash, and Im not trying to downplay it so much as to let people know there is no damage done.

I have attached a pic after the degreasing, and there was no melting of any hoses, overflow tank, nothing. Id show a video of it running right now, but I dont have the means. No engine smoking, ticking, or knocking, just a dead miss at idle.

As far as cost, nowhere near $10,000. If I had to do this all over again, I wouldnt change much. I woulda just put rods in and better bearings from the start, along with head studs. Thats it, here is a breakdown of how it could be duplicated if someone wanted too.

Turbo & fuel sys ~ $2100 (current cost on cam, turbo, intercooler, fuel sys)
Rods/bearings $700 (C&S Performance)
Transmission ~ $2200 (DJ's Transmissions - Local - what I have now)
Converter ~ $500 (what would cost local to make what I have now)

Grand Total ~ $5500

So I would have to aggre that 10's for around $2000 wont happen without blowing trans or engine in a short amount of time. But there are plenty of people out there that have built trans and converters already. So it does kind of represent how someone can go much faster on thier existing combo for around $3000. Which is how I was looking at this all along, as I had my trans and converter almost a year before this project was started.

how much is it costing you again to get it up and running?? hopefully you learned your lesson and actaully start doing stuff the correct way. Even if it takes longer to build.

also what was your 1/8 mile mph on that 11.5 pass?

Hopefully just the $39.99 for the gasket & two 4hr days of breaking my aching back. I would do things a tad differant if I ever had to do this again. Lessons learned..... Biggest was to not use the stock valve springs, rods, bolts, or bearings. Every one of those bit me in the ass! It would make an inexpensive build recipe for a DIY person though.

As far as the pass, here are all the stats. This was at 178kpa or 11psi according to log.

Truck #604
R/T .306
60` 1.623
330 4.682
1/8 7.308
MPH 93.56
1000 9.598
1/4 11.546
MPH 115.54

Is that good or bad for the numbers?

its normal nothing special especailly for a 88mm turbo
i went 7.35 at 94 with stall/intake/tune/cam/100 shot/long tubes on rear drag rads.
[email protected] by moving to a 125 shot

only thing my truck went thru a lot of bottles not just 2 passes and kyle went [email protected] the pass he was on street tires but i think was like 1.9 60 foot he just spun. Mph indicates hp on the truck and if you had higher 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile mph would indicate a lot but being you were at 15 or more psi/e85 your build wouldnt get into 10s at all.

All i know is id hate to be on the same road as your truck with my family in it. IM just being honest and over the past 20 years since getting into cars ive seen some crazy stuff but knowing a truck is set up like yours on the road with other people around it I dont feel safe even in my beater being around it. I wish you would just take some time to make it look clean.

I could just imagine if you were on freeway oil goes all over the place gets on cars next to you or even worse causes you to have a accident and someone gets hurt. Good luck on your build but if your coming to california with it please tell me so my wifes not driving anywhere near you with my kids in the car.

First pass turned out to be at 178kpa or 11psi, not 15. Second one where headgasket went, boost was at 204kpa or 15psi. Its my bad for not looking at the head studs til the day I needed them. I ended up having to use the stock bolts. Im exchanging the 3 length studs for the two lenght ones, so I hope to not have that issue again. So no worries about the wife and kids..... (that was stretching it a tad far IMO)

Yeah Walter, your MPH is way off if you want a 10. You need to be 97 at the 1/8 or so and at least 121 or higher on your trap....you need more power. Get it fixed and get it back to the track....no more hypotheticals, just do track runs and cal it what it is.

Sounds to me like Walter was lucky to have someone around with a Fire Extinguisher or this truck could have burnt to the ground. Once Oil catches fire it burns and burns hot.

Now as far as your 3000 budget build again you have not made it to the 10's and you will never make it to the 10' on 3,000.....

I would like to see this truck stay together for more than a week of driving and racing.

My truck has been together for over 10,000 miles motor and trans. This is driving and racing. When you can do this on your budget Walter then I will give you some props.

ok call me out if im wrong but. for a budget of $5500 If I was looking to go as fast as i could and build it right.

walter could have put
1. built trans
2. pogressive shot
3. bolt ons and supporting mods

and he could have safely gone a 11.5 and drove home and back to that dinner he missed because he didnt have a ride.

walter if you are on a budget. then drive a stock car till you can do it right and only once. who cares if you go 11's if you cant even do it twice. I would rather have my truck stock than never drive it because its broke.

Guys.... Walter did an 11.5 on street tires on his very first pass... If he woulda left shit alone after the first run and ran with the drag radials, Id bet he'd be closer to 10's than you would think.. Just thinking out loud...

Especially after a few runs to dial it in..
