Flushing is much different than replacing filter and fluid. A flush is a pressurized flow of fluid through the system (sometimes in reverse of normal). This can dislodge particles and actually make things worse.

What many will recommend here is to simply replaced the filter and 5-6 quarts of fluid. (ideally replace all 11.2 qts). This uses no pressure or power and is almost always safe to do.

Ok , i guess i should have been a bit more clear. All i am wanting to do is drop the pan , change the filter and replace whatever fluid that comes with dropping the pan. I realise that if i do a flush , i could be buying a new trans which i do not have the funds for at the moment. So is dropping the pan and doing a filter still ok or should i just leave it as is ?

Id do a GM/AC Delco or WIX filter. The filter kit should come with a new pan gasket.

Use any DEX VI fluid (all of them will be compatible and meet GM Spec). I use Valvoline.

Drop the pan, change the filter, and reinstall pan. You may consider adding a plug as mentioned above. I have used this before and like it: http://www.amazon.com/Dorman-HELP-65128-Transmission-Drain/dp/B000CO96EK

With the plug you can then refill the 5-6 quarts after filter swap, run the truck a little and drain and fill 5-6 quarts again. Do this until the fluid is clean and fresh. It also means you can change it again in 25-50k very easily with no mess. :cheers1:

No, just change the filter once. When you pull the old one, crack is open (its plastic). The filter is a felt pocket that filters from inside to out so tear open the pocket and look inside. This will tell you how healthy the trans is. Black goo/pastey stuff is clutches. Metallic stuff is...metal. I pulled the filter out of my dads 4L60E in his 07 silverado at 100k. Inside the filter looked nearly new!

The filter has a lot of capacity so replace it then be concerned with fluid quality...

Ok , gotcha . Well thats good to know !! Im the third owner of this truck . The 2nd owner took really good care of it and hardly drove it. Provided reciepts for everything for the last 2 years. Only thing i dont know is how the 1st owner treated it.

So seeing your dad has 100k on his truck that kinda puts me at ease a little lol .

Thanks for the help/advice !!
RWD, sub 300 ft-lb, low traction, old guy driving slow...

A TBSS doesn't usually live that easy life his truck has...

Hope its nice and clean for ya, but I am sure you are aware these transmissions don't last in these trucks without a lot of care. Your on the right track though.
