There a Fix to the gas pump problem w/ the SS?

9519 Views 24 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  MrGarcia
I know a lot of us have this problem of the pump stopping after a few seconds every time we fill up. Here's a thread I posted a while back: http://www.tbssowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62288

Is there any certain fix to this?? Cause I have tried every single possible change in the way I fuel up... AKA it's not the angle or the backpressure or the way it's tilted etc.

Any insight is greatly appreciated I fucking hate dealing with this every time I fill up.

Get underneath and see if you have a kink or a bend in your fill or vent tubes.
Will do thanks kevin

edit: just looked and didn't really find anything too off
I've just pulled the gas pump out a little bit so that it is halfway in the hole and let it go. I've never had it stop every few seconds since I've started doing that.
hmm i've tried that and it doesn't work for me
Yaa mashin in all the way makes it kick off like that...that and valero pumps lol
If the Charcoal Canister is full of water and fuel it will cause the same issue. You can pull it and drain it out.
just dont put gas in your SS.. you will save money =)
I thnk the reason is that the filler tube diameter is smaller than what some of the older cars used. My Buick had like a 2" tube. I havent measured it, but just looking at it, it cant be over 1" ID, if even that big. You could always make a bigger tube and then let us know how it works!! :)
I have the same issue....i can live with it. I need to fix the fuel sending issue first. What a pita!!!
i NEVER have this problem...

and the sending unit fix is easily accomplished in your driveway with a floor jack. 1-3 hours tops.

:iamwithstupid:

ive said this before - this can happen when people keep trying to get that little extra gas in the tank - what happens is the fuel back up to the nozzle and if done to many times, the vent return will drain the gas into the canister causing this problem.

i too have never had this happen before.
Hmm interesting...
Where is the canister? I'd love this to work the pump is pissing me off like crazy!! takes like a good 15+ minutes to fill up from near empty
is it at the same station every time?....
I've tried BP, Sunoco and Shell... all do it except for one time that it worked at sunoco :dunno:
turn the pump handle upside down, had to do it with my envoy. never stopped while doing that.

The canister is located after the axle on the driverside. You cant miss it with all the lines going into it. Like stated above the fuel can back up into the canister and fill it up. You will be shocked at what comes out of it.
Ok I'll do that tomorrow. Is there any possibility of me screwing anything up by taking it out and emptying it? Just makin sure it won't cause any problems
leave the truck off... and make sure you arent smoking when you do it...lol

youll be fine...

pardon me but when you say after the axle you mean towards the front or rear of the truck. I didn't see anything that looked like a canister, but I found a bunch of lines near the axle and next to the line that connects to the gas tank. There were three or four of them held together somewhat. Here's a shitty picture:

Edit: These are on the driver's side, for what it's worth
