Sounds like the ign switch to me. Bcm shouldnt cause the engine to die.
Try the ignition switch, cheap test for $30-40. If it still does it and that checksum error comes up again, you might need to look for a new ECM.
$150-$350 depending on year and where you get it, + programming charge.Afraid to ask, what's an ECM gonna run me?

Ok, thank youThe 06 is an E40. I would have your original ECM reflashed first before buying a new one, but before you do any of that, replace the IGN switch.
I own a 2006 tbss, and have recently been dealing with a similar issue. The 2 codes that pull up on mine are P0689 & P1682-wireless ignition module. Not sure what else to do, I might have to resort to the dealership. If you don’t mind me asking how did the dealership charge? For anyone following along, or for future reference, i dropped it off at Chevy for diagnosis. Turned out to ecm. I should have it back tmr evening.
Pretty sure its your fuse block. If you have access to a multimeter I can walk you through some tests to confirm. These fuse blocks typically break in the same spot which disables the control circuit for the powertrain relay. The ECM receives 2 ignition voltage inputs. One from the IGN Switch and the other is feedback from the powertrain relay. When the fuse block breaks, the powertrain relay no longer powers on. So the ECM is seeing 12v coming from the IGN switch but there is 0v coming from the powertrain relay when there should be 12v. The ecm then sets p1682 because it is seeing voltage on 1 IGN pin and not both, and it sets p0689 because it is not getting feedback from the powertrain relay.I own a 2006 tbss, and have recently been dealing with a similar issue.
