I got in my 07 TBSS this morning and the "Service Airbag" light came on and did not go off. I drove it approximately 200 miles on Sunday and everything was fine.

I did a search on this forum and I could not find anything related to this. Is this a common problem and what are your suggestions for fixing this? I would rather not take it to the dealership. I only have 25,000 miles but it is out of the 3 year warranty.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

This bulletin is being revised to update the Parts Information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 08-09-41-002D (Section 09 - Restraints).

Condition

- Some customers may comment on an intermittent or current AIR BAG indicator or lamp being illuminated on the instrument panel cluster (IPC).
Important
This bulletin only applies to the following DTCs:

- Technicians may observe DTC(s) B0012 04, 0D, 0E; B0013 04, 0D, 0E; B0015 04, 0D, 0E; B0016 04, 0D, 0E; B0019 04, 0D, 0E; B0020 04, 0D, 0E; B0022, B0023 04, 0D, 0E; B0033 04, 0D, 0E; B0040 04, 0D, 0E; B0042 or B0044 set as Current or in History in the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM).

Cause

This condition may be caused by a loose, missing, or damaged connector position assurance (CPA) retainer at a supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) module electrical connector, or a deployment loop wiring harness electrical connector.

Correction

Caution
When performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, the SIR system must be disabled. Failure to observe the correct procedure could cause deployment of the SIR components. Serious injury can occur. Failure to observe the correct procedure could also result in unnecessary SIR system repairs.

1. Perform the Diagnostic System Check-Vehicle.
2. Identify the DTC that is set AND review the DTC Descriptor in the corresponding diagnostic procedure. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List-Vehicle in SI.
3. Using the information from the DTC Descriptor, determine the location of the affected electrical connector. Refer to SIR Identification Views and the Master Electrical Component List in SI.
4. Turn OFF the ignition and disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SI.
5. BEFORE removing, INSPECT the CPA retainer at the electrical connector.

Note
The connector and connector position assurance (CPA) may seat independent of each other. Both the connector and CPA should seat with an audible and/or tactile click. The CPA isolates the shorting-bars within the connector allowing the deployment circuit to operate properly.

¤ If the CPA retainer is loose, damaged, or will not seat in the connector, replace it with a new one. Reinstall the CPA correctly by first pushing the connector body in completely, and then pushing the CPA retainer in completely.
¤ If the CPA retainer is not loose or damaged and is properly seated, proceed to Step 6.

6. Remove the CPA retainer and disconnect the electrical connector. Inspect the terminals for the following conditions:

- Corrosion
- Contamination
- Terminal tension.
- Damage

Important
The terminals in the SIR/SRS system are made with a special plating. This plating provides the necessary contact integrity for the sensitive, low energy circuits. Use the J-38125 SIR/SRS Terminal Repair Kit for repairing SIR/SRS terminals and connectors. DO NOT substitute any other terminals for those in the repair kit.

¤ If the terminals are damaged, corrosion is observed, or have poor tension, repair or replace as necessary. Apply dielectric grease, GM P/N 12345579 (in Canada, use P/N 10953481) on the connector pins and terminals when reassembling. Refer to SIR/SRS Wiring Repairs in SI.

Note
The connector and connector position assurance (CPA) may seat independent of each other. Both the connector and CPA should seat with an audible and/or tactile click. The CPA isolates the shorting-bars within the connector allowing the deployment circuit to operate properly.

7. Connect the electrical connector, and install the CPA retainer.
8. Enable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SI.
9. Clear the DTC with a scan tool.
10. Verify that the DTC does not reset by performing the Diagnostic Repair Verification in SI.

¤ If any DTC resets, then refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List-Vehicle in SI.

Thanks for your help.

What exactly does a Bulletin being issued mean? Is it similar to a recall and will be fixed free of charge even though it is out of warranty?

no - a bulletin is a document for common problems to aid the technician in the repair. a recall/campaign is the factory's way of saying oops, we will cover it.

Yep I was doing the wiring for my head rest DVD's and after having the seat loose, center console out and back in and vacuuming my light came on too. Under the passenger seat there is a big harness (for a seat) I took it unhooked it and hooked it back in tight. Fixed the light! You don't want anything actually wrong with that crap.

I'm sure my service Stabillitrac is the same thing but I haven't traced that one down. Comes on when its cold out intermittently.

Hope it works for you too, if it does I've finally contributed something to this forum other than annoying questions!

I hadn't done anything with the wiring or so much as moved the seats. It hasn't done it since. It's just strange.

Just had this issue yesterday, took to dealer and they called earlier to let me know it was the sensor in the seat. Had to wait on part to come in tomorrow and they said they have to program it then all will be good.

I'm having the same issue right now, and it appears 1-2 of the wires have come out of the plug/harness. Does anyone have a diagram or a pic of the plug under the seat?

Hit a bump yesterday and the Service Air Bag Light came on, the shop pulled the code and found a Right side front seatbelt pre tensioner/ deployment loop code, dealership has the part and just waiting for the install, I didn't realize that a rough road or pothole would crack or break that sensor....

Did you send your pretensioner out for service? I had the dealer pull a pretensioner code on my 05 Trailblazer. I removed it and got a bad ohm reading on the pretensioner so sent it out to Restore for service . After the reinstall I still have a fault code (the service indicator hasn't cleared which I think its supposed to once its fixed) so not sure what to do next...

yea I had the dealership replace the whole unit inside the seat, did you have the dealer install the new tensioner?

I pulled the seat belt unit off the back of the seat (thanks to Youtube for good instructional vid) then grabbed an ohm meter and called the guys at Safety Restore who confirmed the ohm reading was bad. I packed it up, sent it to Safety Restore, got it back in 4 days. Reinstalled, disconnected the battery over night which cleared the codes and was good to go. PSA, if you haven't disconnected the battery in a long time or cleaned your throttle body that will lead to a second service item of cleaning the throttle body after resetting the computer - lots of discussion on the forums on this issue.
