To make a long story short and a short story long, I swapped the chassis out of my 2008 RWD 1SS (58x) with the chassis from a 2007 AWD 3SS (24x) with the complete drivetrain, wiring, etc. I ended up having to swap all of the interior wiring as well to get it to plug in and run after finding out the donor 2007 truck was built late 2006 and came with a 24x LS2.

Now, my issue is: I need the 2008 VIN rewritten into the 2007 ECU so that I can pass emissions inspections, etc. I've had my local tuner try with HPTuners and we thought it was successful after he licensed it, did the CASE relearn, and it was reading the 2008 VIN on HPT but I plugged in another scanner and it was still reading as the 2007 VIN (for some reason with the digits not in order). I also had another guy that uses Tech2 try but he said it would trip the security system if the VINs don't match between the other modules (sounded like bs to me because I've read about guys writing a 3SS VIN to the BCM when adding steering wheel controls). He didn't actually try rewriting it because he was afraid the truck wouldn't start if he did, and said if he rewrote the 2008 VIN to all the modules some functions may not work?

Is it possible for the 2008 VIN to be programmed to the 2007 ECU or am I in a bind? Thanks for reading and any helpful/knowledgeable comments

I had my tuner look at it and he is saying and confirmed it's actually an E67, but an earlier E67. Tomorrow we're gonna try to come to a conclusion on if he can reprogram it or not. If not I'll just have to change out all the wiring, but I'm wondering if I'll be able to keep the 3ss options (auto climate control, steering wheel controls, etc.)

Sorry, I gave you bad information earlier. I was multitasking and didn't process everything right. You and your sources are confusing and mixing up a lot of things.

So the e67 is only a 58x set up. So I think your tuner is confusing the fact that a 2007 ECM is different than the 2008 and 2009 ECM. You need to confirm your engine reluctor by identifying the color of the crank sensor. Black or gray distinguishes if it's a 58 x or 24x. The 2007 ECM is a bit of an anomaly.

Next, HP tuners only licenses by v i n. So when it pulls from the OBD2 port it is going to take the VIN from the ECM that you have in there. And if that VIN was not changed and you license it now you need to get another license as well as change the VIN in the ecm.

Now, the matter of your vehicle not starting is due to the fact that you have changed ecms. The body control module and the engine control module have the Vats system that needs to share a "key" coding. Anytime you completely reprogram an ECM or change an ECM that key recognition is broken and you have to go through the reset process which will take 30 minutes if you do it manually, you can Google how, or using a Tech 2 to force the two together.

So in short, you need to stick with whatever engine control module and harness came with the engine, use a Tech Tool to set the VIN to the new vehicle body, purchase a new license from HP tuners for that new vin, then do a ignition key and BCM relearn, as well as a cam crank relearn

Thank you for responding and the good info. I believe we tried the program and CASE relearn but the VIN didn't properly program for some reason.

We pulled the ECU earlier and stamped into is "E67" but if I remember correctly I have the grey sensor connector
