1st time at the track, AZ, 101 degrees out...

14.4 @ 96 w/ E-fan and ADM Intake and Tune. I know its not an impressive number, but there was another SS there with intake and ported TB and was running 15.0 - 15.5 @ 91 - 92. It was HOT (the temperature, not his slow ass truck)!

My questions:
1. How do you all launch? (I found leaving from idle was best (stock converter), but still was only getting 2.24 60's). Smashing the gas, however, seemed to come with a small pause before it tore out of the hole. (traction control and stabilitrack off as well)

2. I left it in D. I read somewhere that it helps to put it in 3rd? Any truth to this?

Thanks guys,
Brad

Helps to be in 3rd because it turns off OD, which will do one additional shift before the end... not needed, the shift only slows your time a little. I powerbrake to 1100 rpm and let it fly with TC and Stabilitrak off. I've gotten a 14.204 with a drop in K&N filter and SLP exhaust.

Being in 3 also helps you slow down from engine braking after you let off. As far as the launch, leave on the last yellow and don't wait for green. By the time the truck moves, the green will be on. Much better reaction times. :2cents:

R/T does not affect e.t. Leave it in 3 there is no way you would go into overdrive anyway. I've tried off idle, footbrake to 1000 1500 2000 it did not make any difference to me. You will see much better times when it cools down. Where are you in AZ? Elevation could be a factor also. You just can't compare what the guy in NJ run to what you do in the heat and elevation. Wait until fall you will be well into the 13's. I was running about what you did last summer and in the fall was running 13.7's & 13.8's at 100. AWD with just a tune.

Thanks guys.

JCattSS,

I'm in Mesa and made the runs at Firebird.

I do know that R/T has no effect on ET. I was more curious as to how others were launching (as far as to get the best 60' times).

I'm not too down about the 14.4, I did the DA calculation and it was over 5000ft!

I really had no business running when it was that hot, but you can't have much more fun for $17.

17 it cost me 20! I tried a few rpm's and couldn't tell a difference.

elevation e.t mph
5000 .9380 1.0661

Here are the correction factors at 5000 ft, for shits and giggles.

Are you AWD or 2WD? Would think 2wd in AZ??

2.24 is not that abnormal for these trucks. Need a stall :)

5000 DA huh? Yikes.

:dunno:??????? R/T's don't affect your ET's?????? As far as I knew, 1/4 mile times wheather or not against another car or the clock, R/T's have everything to do with anything involved in running. Can you explain what ya mean a little more?

Races are won when the quickest car gets to the finish line. You can sit on the line for two seconds if you want. The clock and what shows on your slip does not indicate when the light went green. The clock starts when you leave the beam.

Old thread, new questions. Took the truck out for the first time to Milan Dragway in MI. First 2 runs were 15.0 and 15.5 with 2.6 60' times lol! So, dropped 10lbs of pressure in the tires to 25lbs and did a burn-out next time up. Pulled a 2.0 60' and went [email protected] 1/8 mi was [email protected] I know it was pretty warm (about 80) and humidity was 87% when I left the house. I don't know anything about DA or what factors affect it, so don't have a correction. With my mods though, seems like I should be running better. Can some of you experts break down those numbers and tell me what my truck is doing? How is everything lining up? Do I need more top end, more low end? Or, does everything look okay? I see some people claiming to run 12's on a tune and CAI....that doesn't make sense. I've got a few more mods than that and I'm barely breaking 13.5's? Thanks for any suggestions.

ssman07 - Truthfully that seems about right for being about 80 degrees. What day was it on? I'll look up your complete weather details. For your mods depending on the weather I'd say should be about the 13.1 to 13.2 range. Wonder what your IAT temperature is? I live in Michigan as well. Usually go to lapeer dragway. Plan on going at least once more when the weather is cooler. Think you should tag along.

You need to go on a much cooler day. If you go out to the track once, don't learn how to launch the truck, don't take any weight out, don't know how much pressure to run in the tires, your not going to have good results. Every time you go out, it is a learning experience. You will learn what the truck likes, and what it doesn't respond to. These trucks hate the heat. So you really can't expect to run great times in 80+ degree weather, and 87% humidity. Go back out when it is 40-50 dgrees out with dry air. Your truck will thank you with great times. Learning how to launch these trucks takes some skill. These things are pigs and if you don't learn its sweet spot your not going to have the best results. Also, always drop your tire pressure to 22-25psi. Lots of 2wd guys are running DR's at the track, so that tells you you won't get factory tires to bite at stock pressures. IEATSRT8 is right. I have run at Lapeer late in the year, and the results are in my sig. This was with a bone stock truck with less than 2,000 miles on it.

Where are you getting this misinformation? Do you even race? You do realize that you shift 2-3 at about 85mph (or the 1/8 for me) and carry 3rd all the way down the second half of the track right?!?!?

I just leave it in D.

Don't believe me, I can show you countless logs. lols

ieatsrt8 - I was at Milan 10-03-07. I don't know what my IAT was as I do not have any monitoring equipment. I have my LS1 fans connected to a toggle and was running fan #2 even while the moter was off, but even so, I was hot lapping as much as possible, so I don't know how much it really cooled it down. (I think thats what they call hot lapping, when you run and drive straight back in line to run again?) I know the weather wasn't great. I'm not too dissapointed with my times. I just wondered if anybody could look at my times and break it down for me to tell me if they thought the truck was running alright or if they could see anything wrong. I said if it wasn't out of the 14's I'd sell it, but obviously it is out of the 14's. Thanks for your responses.

haha did he make you mad? He was just mis-informed I guess and he isnt the only person who has mentioned you should leave it in 3rd.

According to transmission builders there is mechanical reasons to put it in 3rd and not Drive.

But you are right, we are not going to shift out of 3rd in the quarter.

Your times for the weather are very good and Milan seems to be a slower track IMO. Thinking I need to get efans if we meet up LOL. My personal best came on a hotlap right after a hour cool down. My IAT was 5 degrees above aimbient and my coolant temp was aprox 183 F. I have learned to just leave it in Drive. It pulls 1.96 60' doing so on a stock converter. Go to accuweather and check weather details to figure out the DA before you go to the track. Reasons said many times these trucks run like ass in warm weather. Do you see TONYGXP posting on running his truck. NOPE, doubt he has run it yet this year until October & November when there is crazy negative DA.
