PCMofNC Oil Pickup Relocation or Kevin Hanson Oil Pan Baffle

5708 Views 25 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  RoelSS
I have been debating on which one to go with for a while now and need to make a decision as I am finally getting around to some modifications (and repairs) on my TBSS and hopefully will get either the relocation kit or pan baffle done in the next month. There is a significant cost difference between the two but if the relocation kit is all-around better, I am ok with spending the extra money. I've seen a couple videos and various comments but I am still wanting more input before making a decision, any help would be appreciated.

Personally, I think the plate is good enough. Especially if you go lowered and stiffen up the suspension some so you have less pitching.

That said, I just run extra oil because it's a real pain in the ass to do either on an AWD.

Thanks @BlkGS . My front diff has some leaks so I'm pulling it to tend to that and figured the hard part would be done so I might as well take it a step further for some added insurance.
7qts all the time and the baffle will take care of 95% of people. Save you plenty of coin too

I spun a bearing at 160,000 miles. Caused by oil starvation? Most likely.

When installing my LS3 crate motor, I went with the PCMofNC relocation kit. Overkill? Possibly. But I never heard anything bad about it either. So my setup (with 7qts of oil) should take care of 98% of people. Mine is also AWD, so I wanted to maximize the performance of the only oil pan I can use.

Long story short, they’re both great options. If either had issues, they wouldn’t be selling them.

If you really dropped in a crate motor, a fancy pickup tube is just a rounding error in the overall costs. 😛

but yes both are good options just depending on needs/requirements

Haha, my thoughts exactly! Although I just went with a cammed long block straight from GM….very reasonably priced in comparison to rebuilds that have the same 495hp at the crank.

I've considered this same question. My thought was it is so involved for an AWD.

So I figured I'd run 7qts and I'm really never that late for an appointment anyhow 😁
Recently, I decided to run a Maggie, Headers and a few other mods. This question came up again while booking an installation appointment over at PCMOFNC.

Their recommendation 'do it' especially given the mods I'm planning to do. I don't think there is a huge difference in the baffle vs relo kit in terms of work to be done on an AWD drive. That being said, I'm still thinking i would rather run 7qts and not drive it like I stole it.

There appears to be 3 approaches to the pan situation, of course if its 2WHL drive its simple - C6 pan. The PCMofNC pickup kit, the baffle (seems to be a fixed and hinged version out there) and a mofication to the oil pan that removes the oil filter from the pan (adds 2-3 pints where its needed most) BUT requires a relocated oil filter. The worst part IMO is removing the pan -ugh. I'd like to offer another possible solution which is to get a remote filter adapter and add an Accusump device into the system (this also requires remote mounting of the oil filter). As with everything around the engine clearance is tight but this might work and wouldn't require removing the pan. I've seen some (remote) adapters that appear small enough to go under the stock oil filter mount. Just a thought.
An accusump is actually a really great idea. They're not insanely expensive, and you could add an oil cooler in line with it then. Plus you'd be protected from side to side sloshing then.
Been selling my baffle which stops the oil from sloshing to the rear for 11 years. And over 2140 sold todate, another 3 in tge last couple days. Its still just $25 like its always been and shipped via priority mail. Even Terry Wilson aka Coverman66 has done a video on the install as well as Brandon Barlow aka Revhard garage. Both the pcm and my baffle work, just in different ways-adapting to the slosh or stopping the slosh.

I've actually watched both of their videos, thanks. I should add that my main reservation on using the baffle is that my driveway is sloped and I'm concerned for oil starvation still with the baffle. I've backed my TBSS into my driveway since I've owned it due to my concern for if I would pull it in forward. Does anyone know how much the factory pickup is submerged while engine running? Does the baffle slow equalization of the oil level on drain back if it's sitting at a slope and idling to warm up, etc? If I choose the baffle, where/how do I purchase it for $25? The place that I found the baffle has it listed for $50. Thanks.
Regardless of the solution you choose, always run 7qts of oil. Problem solved

to order the baffle, message kevin above @dfwwiz and he’ll tell you how he gets paid

Why would you install a blower, in addition to all the other performance mods, if you're gonna drive like a granny?

I went with PCMOFNC and I'm happy with how it turned out. Biggest tip I would give is take your time removing the rivet's and drilling the new holes.

I have an extra one I can sell at a discount if your interested.... I ordered two by accident as it was months apart LoL

Just driving in a way that shows some level of care and thought for the future...

I wanna purchase a baffle how do I get the money to you

You are right, the differences between baffle and relocation tube is how the oil starvation is prevented from happening.
The baffle stops the oil from freely sloshing to the rear and is a simple add into the pan with 2 holes drilled in the splash tray and popping the ricets to hold. Takes about 10-15 min to install after the pan has been removed. $30 shipped from me or $60 from RPM in CO
The relocation tube and splash tray kit adapts to the oil slosh to the rear and requires you to remove stock slpash tray, install 2 trays back in and install a 5" longer pick up tube behind the axle tube. Its about 90 min to install after removing the pan. $325+ shipped
For rwd the C6 pan is the best option but requires alot more money, more work, more parts and more time required to install it.
Could I order one of your baffles please?
@dfwwiz I’ve tagged him hopefully comes and checks this. Once your post count is higher you can message him directly
