The obvious way to go is powder coating but I have a buddy that runs a bodyshop and will paint my wheels for free. Has anyone had any issues withtheirwheels being painted? Scratching due to mounting and unmounting tires?

Free is free. I would have him paint them and see how you like it. Tire joints can mess up powder coat just like they can mess up paint if they don't mount them correctly, some places won't even touch them. The paint should hold up fine as long as you just wash them with a wash mit and soap. I would also have your buddy spray a couple extra coats of clear to give your wheels a little extra protection. When they start to look bad, have them re sprayed:2cents:

That what I'm gonna do to mine since I work at a bodyshop, just gonna bury them in clear and they should be fine.
