I still have not heard that it did pass. In fact I just got a call from a customer today wanting to know if I had had hide-a-plates, at least 3 kits and maybe as many as ten because cops were writing tickets for missing front plates more than ever!

Just found this out. If you do not have a front plate as of Sept 1 you now will be fined $200. Before there was no fine for the past 2 years because they forgot to put it in the bill. So long story short, it is law "you DO need a front plate" or pay $200 fine.

As much as I want this to pass, I don't think it will happen gents. Toll-way authority lobbyists have a lot of power and a ton of money. They don't want it to pass because as soon as it does it will cut down on revenue. All one would have to do is throw a bike rack on the back of the car and run toll roads rampant.

It was always the same fine. The wording in the law was incorrect and because of this it reverted back to the previous law. Nothing changed.

If you have a question regarding traffic law... fell free to message me. I have a few answers lol.

:( this is sad news to hear! I was really looking forward to have a smoothe looking front end. If the damn lobbyists are upset that people will block their rear plates, then the law should state that the rear license plate must be completely visible at all times and issue $200 fines for those people intentionally blocking it. Instead of getting us who have no front plate. Get the bike rack mfg's to re-design/have ability to put license plate on its outter most part.

I know the bike rack was just an example above and there may be more to this than simply that, but still....

Outlaw bike racks instead?

Ive never had a front plate on my cars and definitely would never ever ever drill holes on my bumper. Ive only gotten 2 10 dollar fix it tickets in 10 years of driving and the only reason they got me for that was because I was speeding

I work for TXDPS and I can confirm they did not pass it. And now you can be fined for it but most courts have no updated to where they are actually having the set fine for it. My brother in law refuses to put a front plate on his Mercedes and he just got a ticket for it in Cedar park outside of Austin. He's going to try to get it dismissed.. We'll see.

Been here almost ten years, never had a front plate,,have gotten 3 warnings in those ten years, twice from DPS and once from Travis County,,they were all very courteous and I explained that the cars I had came from Florida and have no front plate provisions, they never gave me a hard time,,then again I wasnt speeding and always have al my paperwork up to date and ready.. Now the Aero is the first vehicle I have bought here in texas,,well guess what,,it also has no front plate holes and its a Texas vehicle so no front plate for it either. Only reason to have a front plate is for revenue pure and simple. LEOs going the other way on a highway do not have time to read your plate when the closing speed is over 140mph (70 for you 70 for him) they need to get behind you regardless. Florida had no front plates and the got rid of the smog inspections after a few years because they realized it was a scam for shops to screw people.. Yet in Florida its illegal to drive with a cracked windshield but here you can pass safety with one..Stupidest thing I have ever seen..

It didn't pass, I hate to say this but because of a lot of bad apples its the reason we need this law in effect... because of few others have to pay the consequence.. I personally won't write for Front Lp, but I do know of some that do, my honest opinion and advise, if you get stopped for it, don't hassle the officer, just be nice because you are violating the law but hopefully you will get off with just a warning. Its great P.C, but the outcome is never known because there is alot of different Officers out there... If any question please feel free to P.M me. Happy Holidays guys, be safe ya'll :cheers1:

Below are the states that do and do not require front plates.. You will notice that in almost all the southern United States Texas is the ONLY state requiring them..
Says something to me about our legislature.......

I hate my plate that's why I got black plates and painted the white ring running along the out side black

Nice Find!!! I have been pulled over once in colorado for not having mine, just a slap on the hand and have a nice day. I havent had a front plate on both my trucks for 6 years.

Coming from Oklahoma I understand why inspections in Texas are in place. You see pieces of crap that are not road worthy driving around in OK but not here and that's appreciated. But I don't understand the need for the two plates. I just wish they would combine registration and inspection to be one in the same.

My front plate is not on the foremost position of the truck but is instead in the top right corner of the windshield. Only got one warning so far at the same time as a window tint citation in Sugar Land. South Texas border checkpoint accepted the fact that my vehicle wasn't manufactured in a "front plate state" but my sister's '97 trans am has been warned and ticketed numerous times even with the pointy nose and no factory plate mount.

2015 really? Awesome! I have been wondering why the 2 stickers were never combined since I moved out here in '98. I see so many people driving around with current registration and many months old inspection stickers. Heck I even forgot to do my inspection for 6 months 1 time. Of course once I did it I now had a 6 month gap between the registration and inspection. I'm kinda OCD about keeping everything matching so it bugged me until I just got the next inspection only 6 months latet.

Yep, 2015 they are combining the registration and inspection. If you don't pass inspection, you cant register your ride though lol.
