Hey all, been lurking on this site for a few years now. Never really posted, but I’ve read tons of info.
I purchased my 07 probably three years ago. Bone stock with 76xxx on it. I’ve done a few mods but nothing over the top. I’m leaning towards leaving the engine stock as I have the money pit engine in my 97 stepside. Anywho, I got to fiddling around under the hood and decided to look at the intake filter. Holy crap! What kind of drugs were they taking when they came up with that design? Seriously, who needs almost three gallons of washerfluid? Not to mention how big of a pain in the butt it is to get it all back together. Geez man!

Well here’s my attempt at making one of my own. I like the thru the fender well idea and using the brake dam to gather forced air, but I didn’t like the idea of having the filter down there. Just seems like it would get wet easily and gather a lot of dirt. So I fabbed up a tunnel and a box to try and catch some forced air. The filter I’m using for this is a little small and I will probably get a bigger one after this one needs cleaning. It’s a work in progress but I think it came out okay. Enjoy and any criticism or ideas are always welcome. I’m not machanic or fabricator by any means. I just like tinkering around.

Interesting setup.

Curious to see how the MAF sensor behaves with the bend right in front of it.

Interesting. There are filter socks to keep air filters dry. I would consider getting one and stretching it across the opening in your box to keep water out.

I’m glad you mentioned that about the maf readings. I totally forgot that I was gonna put it right after the filter. I started on this when everything got shut down due to the corona virus. I got held up on a delivery of a part and it went to the back burner. I just finished the thing today and haven’t even started it yet. (My rear windshield washer check valve decided to blow apart. Yeah that left quite a mess.). During the wait period on the part I thought about the maf being there and I guess in my brain I fixed it but not on the vehicle. Thanks “theheder”for pointing that out.

Interesting setup, looks good. You did your intake tube to the grill similar to how we fabbed our Porsche Oil cooler plenum.
I would like to know where you got the pieces I have pointed to here. Smooth tubing connectors and that last small bend.

My stock box is modified, but I go out the inner side fender. However, I'd like to smooth out the tubing from MAF to TB as you did.

Thanks! For a minute there I didn’t think anyone liked it. Haha
The 90 degree elbow and couple after it I got from summit racing probably 5 or 6 years ago. It was a universal kit that came with various pieces. The 45 degree boot is a spectre off Amazon. It’s a pretty sturdy piece that I’ve been pleased with. Hope that helps some.
