for the past few days i've been hearing a metal grinding noise when i start my truck. the noise only last about a second. i does it about every 10 times i start it. does anyone know what it might be, starter, pulley? thanks for any help.
I have this same problem. It sounds terrible and it's very quick on start up which leads me to believe like most it's either the starter or the flex plate. Makes me cringe every time, though.
Bump mine started to do that it souds like when you cut something with a grinder and you let go and the disk keeps grinding on the metal it sound like that at start up any one know whats it is and whats the cost to fix
Starter or the starter relay. If it sounds like a grinder running down...that's the engine spinning the starter over. The starter gear is supposed to retract when the engine starts....if it doesnt, well figure your engine at what, 2K rpm upon startup with a gear ratio (assuming 153 to 12 tooth) of 12.75:1, thats 25,500 rpm. Yikes!
I also say starter relay as if its sticking somehow (also could be the PCM not detecting engine startup properly) then it may be keeping the starter engaged too long.
