Mine was broken when I bought the truck so picked one up from the wrecker, which promptly broke. Mostly from me leaning on it with my elbow getting in. So I removed the led and the upholstery to reveal the plastic shell. Pressed the cracks back into place and laid some Saran wrap over it. Then laid up 4 or 5 layers of 10oz fibreglass cloth and epoxy over that. When cured I trimmed it up and pop-riveted it to the plastic shell taking care to make sure all the cracked locations were well secured. Re-installed the upholstery and re-mounted on the console. I can now lean on it with out any issues.

After I replaced mine I just avoid using my elbow on it for support when getting in and out. Haven't had any issues once I started doing that.

Unfortunately some of us are built a bit closer to the ground than others :>) and are somewhat older so not as flexible as in earlier times and can't get all the way into the seat in one go. Hence the elbow lever.
With the re-inforced lid I have no issues.

You can buy just the latch on rock auto for under $10, mine still popps open sometimes tho so a mini Bic lighter fits under the handle to keep it latched perfect. Always there if needed but i dont smoke, ill post a pic later if anyone needs.
