I installed the pac vci gm2 last night. I had no problems getting it done. Here is how I wired it up.

**BE VERY GENTILE WHEN REMOVING THE FACTORY RIBBON OUT OF THE HEAD UNIT! IT TEARS EASILY!!!
Red +12v
Green, white, white, black =grounded
Blue +12v from reverse lights (it is easier to just tag the light green wire in the taillight)
Camera into video input 2
* if you end up with a black screen flip the toggle switch.
I did not use the optional SPDT relay, but if you go this route make sure you put an inline fuse on the red wire.

Wiring it this way will allow you to watch something while in motion and switch to a reverse camera when you put the TBSS in reverse.

I will be using input 1 for a PS2 or a dvd player. When you want to watch video, just flip the supplied toggle switch and Video 1 will be displayed.

It works great!! I am really liking having a reverse camera.
Let me know if anyone has any questions on it.

I'm trying to install the VCI-GM2/AV in my '08, got my back-up camera to work but can't get the remote DVD player to work (AV-1 or AV-2). I bought this version because it said it was a audio AND video switch so I would not need the FM transmitter. anybody out there get theirs to work or should I just give up and find the non A/V version. :king1:

I'll look into it. How do you have it wired up? Do you get any picture at all from the DVD player? Have you checked to make sure the toggle switch is working properly? Have you tried putting the camera into input 1 and flipping the switch? If this works, than the unit is hooked up properly and you will have to mess around with the DVD outputs. I haven't tried a DVD player yet, but you probably need an adapter to turn the audio and video cables into 1 output. Let me know if this helps.

This is the "AV" version. Has no toggle switch and has Audio inputs as well as video. You are suppose to be able to access the video switch with the provided remote contol pad. I cannot get the remote to work or access the configuration screen provided with the AV unit that is displayed on the head unit. I contacted PAC tech help and they told me this version has been discontinued. The seller I bought this from is going to replace it with the non-AV version as you have and hope to re-install this weekend. I also purchased the PAC AA1GM24 audio interface module this time. Will keep you informed on progress, Thanks

I bought a OEM replacment for the Suburban on EBAY. Came across a deal got the camera and cables for $50.00. It mounts between the licence plate lites and looks factory just like the factory cameras on the Tahoe and Suburban. will post pictures when my install is completed and working.

Great thanks! Thats where I would like to mount mine but I wonder how much trouble it will be to get the wires through the tailgate back into the vehicle?

I attempted my own install this afternoon and its apparently too complicated for me. All I was able to get done was the cable inside the nav unit. Now my nav doesn't even fucking work anymore. Hopefully its because the PAC module isn't hooked up. I am never going to work on my own vehicle again. After today I just want to get rid of the SS and get something that has everything I want stock... :(

Wally,

Is the OEM camera 12v or 6v, I had read somewhere that it could be 6v---DON'T QUOTE ME though.

Please keep us posted. I'm curious how the OEM re-install will pan out.

You have to have the cable from the radio plugged into the adaptor box . I does a loopback through the adapter.
So if the box isn't getting power it won't correct the screen anyways, right?

When I plug it in now the screen comes on for a split second, and goes back out. Don't know if the ribbon cable inside the box isn't right, or if its just that none of the module wires are hooked up to the truck yet. I'm having a local audio shop finish up the job whenever they get back to me. The first shop I got in touch with refused to touch a job that was already started. :wtf:

It does not require power, mine is just sitting in my dash unpowered, but it shows the nav and my ipod screens just fine. I put it in and realized it needed to be attached to the box to complete the circuit. I will finish running power to it when i get the rest of my equipment order in .

So I guess that means I need to pull my dash apart and check the ribbon connections then, since I have a blank screen no matter what...

its so simple you almost cant break anything. with that said, I'd recommend you remove the ribbon, check the orientation (the contacts should face up @ the upper connector) , and slowly reinsert the ribbon cable.

For the connector thats hard to get to, I took a piece of paper and put it between the double sided tape and the ribbon until I was sure I pushed it far enough into the socket to make connection. Then i carefully removed the paper and pressed the ribbon into the sticky side of the tape. HTH

Turns out my unit is defective according to the customer service rep I talked to. Once the new unit comes in I'm just going to have an audio shop do the install.
