Yes, your auto parts store should be able to get you the key cylinder for a reasonable price. Go w/ the better brand if they have options. I went w/ the Borg Warner ignition switch for mine, from O'Reilly Auto.My TBSS is a salvage and to start you must insert the key all but about a 1/4 of an inch from being fully "flush" for the lock cylinder to turn. Does anyone know if you just buy a new lock cylinder with key that it will work with all the other original parts in the ignition?
:coolthumb:I just did this last week using post #15 for guidance. You have to finagle the bottom plastic cover off the steering column b/c of the lip, but overall great instructions. I did not remove the steering wheel, key cylinder, or airbag (kept clear of it), but I definitely disco'd the battery....
I was working on the tune on an 06 once and it seemed like the computer died, but the real culprit was a bad fuse connector in this underhood junction fuse box. All it took was a few tweaks with a small screwdriver and everything was working great again...just took a while to figure it out.Mine did the same thing this past Wednesday. Pulled it in the garage the evening prior - got in it the next morning and it wouldn't start - checked the battery output and all was good. It didn't make a sound when turning the key to engage the starter - everything else seemed normal. Had it towed into the dealer - still under factory 3/36. They found it to be the Engine Wiring Harness Junction Box - they called it the ignition relay, but they told me they usually just replace the whole junction box if something shorts out or is problematic. I have attached a scan of the warranty work -
Initially I thought it was the ignition switch.
Funny...mine did the same thing yesterday after dropping the kid off at daycare. Finally got it started, took it home, switched cars and bought a new ignition switch. Will be changing it this morning.Had mine not start this morning too. Dropped the kids off at daycare, got in the truck, turned the key and nothing. No noise, no clicking, I mean nothing. Everything else on the truck works fine. I waited a while and finally got the truck to start just as I was on the phone with a tow truck. Now it seems to start everytime. Not sure what's wrong, so I took it to the dealer for a diagnosis. I'll let you guys know what they say.
Is what I described a symptom of a bad ignition switch?
If the key fits the door perfectly, then just have the cylinder matched to the key.My TBSS is a salvage and to start you must insert the key all but about a 1/4 of an inch from being fully "flush" for the lock cylinder to turn. Does anyone know if you just buy a new lock cylinder with key that it will work with all the other original parts in the ignition?
Thanks in advance.
