Flowmaster has always sounded good, but are seriously lacking in the flow dept. Quite a few magazines, as well as independent testers have done "muffler shootouts", and in some cases, depending upon which stock mufflers the testers were using, the stock ones outflowed the Flowmasters.

I'm removing mine...

I also have a Flowmaster 40 in place of the stock muffler with the resonator removed. I also have an ADM CAI and tune and I ran my friend in an '07 who's stock except for a Corsa catback and he's slightly faster. Needless to say I was pretty pissed off ...I talked to Andy at ADM and he had told me that he had a similar chambered muffler on his setup and he couln't make any power. So he ended up puting a straight through catback (ie. The stock muffler, the Corsa and Stainless Works setup) and he gained 35 rwhp! Anyways, I have a Stainless Works LMF catback on the way. I'll let you know in a few days if it really makes a difference.

Yea, but who was faster to begin with? Just a question...

Anyway, post your results as this is the same set up I have.

i have a knockoff flowmaster on mine, its called a flowzilla, im thinking about taking it off and putting a magnaflow or somthing on, or just get a piece of pipe welded in, how loud are these trucks with no muffler and the resonator still in place?

the stock system is 2.75 inches and over the rear axle is where the flow gets cut bad. Its like gm crimped the exhaust tubing.

If you have stock headers and put that kit in that im selling the sound is fine and all 3 inch. 100 plus shipping bro

I have a Flowmaster Super40 single chamber on mine.. Its a race muffler that flows just as good as any straight-thru style muffler, but I'll be honest, it sounds like shit when I first start it up in the morning. Sounds like I have a glass pack on it. For some reason when it heats up though, it sounds a little better. Still too raspy however. Im in the works of making a true dual system with some 50 series mufflers. The extra exhaust should compensate for the lack of flow through the Flow's

The reason I asked was because I have a flowmaster w/ res delete. I ran a baseline before mods installed. I was disappointed in the baseline numbers. 284hp and 292tq. that is horrible. keep inmind this a 2wd 2007. Then I got e-fans installed, MAC CAI, Tunetime performance tune, trans cooler and after 5 pulls the best was 301hp and 314tq on a mustang dyno. call me crazy , but i expected way more. I believe that the flowmaster and a IAT of 110 degree played a big part. I ordered a HSRK today from vector. NORCAL send me some pics on this exhaust your talking about.

Mike for comparisons sake, I don't think it's the flowmaster that's robbing THAT much power. I have an '06 AWD and it dynoed (same shop) 314/337 w/ just Matt's intake/tune and the same exhaust set up you have.

Ok than since what I have on my SS is a 40's 2chamber flowmaster and it does lack the ablity to flow good what muffler flows much better? Keep in mind I would just change the muffler and also I want "NOISE":beavisnbutthead:.... Also I have a set of spintech's race mufflers on my 69 torino with a 351 in it running with two and a half pipe sounds fucking mean but I don't know how these would sound on a SS:dunno: Any thoughts????

If you want to drop some coin on a good flowing, good sounding muffler, then get an AeroTurbine muffler. They are the most well designed muffler I have ever seen, and we have done comparisons with them vs. an MBRP straight-thru muffler on a diesel once. It picked up 33 hp from the same exact size muffler. I've only ever heard AeroTurbine's on some diesels, a few RX7s and a Mustang. The Mustand sounded pretty badass with them on, none of that annoying drone you usually get with straight-thru mufflers on a Mustang..
Only downside the AeroTurbine is they are about $150

Dont get me wrong, Flowmasters sound good but are known as Chokemasters. There have been plenty of flow comparisions on these in the past and failled.
Magnaflow is a strait thru design (as is the stock one) which has the least amount of back pressure so it lacks the Flowmaster rumble.

I have a 18" body Magnaflow with res-delete and sounds great once you get in the 2000+ rpm range.

You gotta think about who's doing the study though. I've seen a study where quite a few mufflers were tested for "zero h.p. loss" systems and the number one rated muffler was the flowmaster race series muffler. It outflowed every magnaflow, corsa, borla etc. This study was not done by flowmaster so it wasn't biased but then again the flowmaster race series muffler isn't a street legal muffler. At least not in cali.
