ok

amp gain set at 1/2
turn the radio up
goes into protect mode and speakers are dead until i restart the car.

pulled off one speaker lead at a time and each time goes into protect mode still.

took all speaker leads off and turned radio up... amp goes into protect mode.

So pretty much at this point amp is faulty right??? voltage deosnt drop down either enough to put it into protect mode.

Yup. If you grounded the amp to a painted surface, you might need to grind some paint off to get a proper ground.

Yes paint scrape and give each amp it's own ground too. Double check all connections and fuse. How many watts is the amp and what gauge wire are you using?

If power source is good then I would say amp as well.

But what you are describing can happen with a poor connection in the power system.

How high can you turn it before it drops? Normal listening levels?

Ground x100. I have never ran into protect mode but when helping out a buddy with the amp cutting like that almost has always been a grounding issue def. check the paint surface. Who knows this is a fiat. If your ground is good then I would say your troubleshooting points directly to a bad amp.

4 gauge power
4 gauge ground

both alpine amps have the same grounding point
only 1 amp turns off

i disconnected speaker by speaker and at 75 percent about on volume it would go into protect mode.

Then with NO speakers hooked up it also went into protect mode.
