So yesterday I went to get a tire rotation and rebalance and I was just over 1/32" off the wear bars, so I went ahead and had them install new shoes...The 265/50's are 3/10" wider and 4/10" taller than stock. They sit just over 1/8" off the upper shock mount/control arm, is that going to be too close? it hasn't rubbed at all and I like the way they fill the weel well a bit better...

Tony, any insight on this subject since you are the leading authority?

The are about a 1/4" to a 1/2" close, but I've had it up to 135 and no problems...even took them off to inspect for rubbing on the fronts after a while and I got none. They fit because they are mounted on the factory 8" wide rim, if they were mounted on an 8.5" wide wheels the backspacing would have to be adjusted most likely

Holy old thread!

Performance hurts because the taller tire effectively raises (numerically lowers) the final drive ratio. Since they're only 4/10" taller its not a lot. Also the speedo will run slower by a mph or 2.
