Default NGK Spark plug info

Since this question comes up often, I thought I would write this up so Jay can sticky it for new members and old members for quick reference without searching. These are all NGK copper plugs which is pretty much the unanimous recommendation by LS builders/tuners who usually dont agree on much...lol

Keep in mind this is a general guide. You may stick with one heat range over another depending on your exact setup and octane. Consult your tuner for their opinion.

TR5- 2238 stock heat range .035 gap

TR55- 3951 stock heat range .055 gap

TR6- 4177. 1 heat range colder .035 gap (best plug for most TBSS with tune, bolt ons, cam only)

BR6EF- 3177. Same as TR6 but with non projected tip for nitrous or boost .035 gap

BR7EF- 3346. Two heat ranges colder non projected tip 125+ shot or 10 + psi .032 gap

B8EFS- 1049. Three heat ranges colder, non projected tip, non resisted. 15 psi or 200 + shot with increased compression

B9EFS- 1085. Four heat ranges colder, non projected tip, non resisted. Now you are making some big power

It continues on from here but if you are getting past the 9 heat range on an LS motor, you probably don't need this sticky.

Proper spark plug torque for the LS2 is 11 ft-lbs

Wow, I honestly always use Never Seize on my plugs. I guess I should stop that?

I didn't say I was running anything. Don't you see them as a choice for tr6 guys?

What's wrong with them?

I prefer copper and think that you shouldn't be modifying vehicles if changing plugs every 25K is too much trouble.

Added gaps for 6 and 7 non projected plugs. If you are running an 8 or 9 you really shouldn't need this sticky.

So is this thread what your personal opinions are or just general information?

Why do you prefer copper? At least elaborate for those who would like to know...

You can't just tell people they have to run copper and not state why it actually makes sense. So... what say you?

It is general info with my opinion sprinkled in.

Copper is a much better conductor then iridium. Iridium is a compromise for longer change intervals.

So is this one mainly for cams + bolt on's & a tune only?

TR6- 4177. 1 heat range colder .035 gap (best plug for most TBSS with tune, bolt ons, cam only)

What is the suggestion for bolt on's & tune???

One question posted here for future owners. The tuner I will be using recommends TR6 plugs. Can I install them early with the stock tune and run for a month in the summer without major issues?

I would say yes. If you notice any issues then run 91 instead of 93 until your tune is done.
