It's a 402 with a 4l80. Poor thing actually feels like a horrible turd. People keep telling me it's because of the trans but with that much TQ and a 3600 stall it should at least spin the tires some

Duh... Just saw the thread title lol.

I noticed mine feel a little more sluggish too when I did my 80 swap too... Was thinking 4.56s would take Care of that lol...

I don't have an 80e so I'm not speaking from experience here, but I would definitely agree with those who have been telling you it's the transmission.

The gears in the 4L80E are significantly "higher" than the 4L70E, specifically 1st and 2nd.

4L70E Gear Ratios
1st = 3.07
2nd = 1.63
3rd = 1
4th = 0.70

4L80E Gear Ratios
1st = 2.48
2nd = 1.48
3rd = 1
4th 0.75

Going from the 3.07 1st gear in the 4L70E to the 2.48 1st gear in the 4L80E is why it "feels like a turd..." and "feels slower since I swapped to the 80e..."

With so many TBSS swapping to the 80e I'm surprised there aren't more people swapping out their gear ratios specifically for 1st and 2nd gears, because there are lower gears available. Probably because swapping to the 80e is such an expensive project as it is and the lower gear ratios are a decent investment in themselves.

I didn't figure it would be too bad down low with it being a 402 instead of stock cubes. Converter is WAY too tight (2500 is all I can get out of it with the pedal on the floorboard) and I personally think the cam is too big. More of a corvette cam. I have a 218/230 cam sitting in my closet so I'm contemplating using that and see what happens

Like I said they're pretty pricey, you're adding $900-$1,100 to your 4L80e trans build just to upgrade your 1st and 2nd gear ratios.

Price doesn't matter. Already have $4k in it with converter. Problem is the gearing is weaker if I'm not mistaken.

Are those gearsets not proven to be reliable?

I was planning on changing the gears as well, but seems we can't.
