I'm looking to getting a box with a L7 kicker and a 750 amp 1 channel amp to push it. My question is will i need a cap or an alt. upgrade? thanks in advance
I have a 15" L7 with a 2300 mono-block amp. I have 2 caps and I got the big three done under the hood. I can have lights on, air going, and nothing dims. IMO, I dont think the caps are doing anything really.

I always put caps in my systems, makes the bass sound a little better. You should be fine with the regular alternator with that setup. My :2cents:

sweet im just making sure before i spend the money on the stuff then find out i dont have the money for an alt, or multi battery setup
For the L7, what would be the better box sealed or ported?

I would do the cap, just to be safe.
Umm the box is really up to you, sealed is a smaller box but ported hits harder.

Simple electronics...If your alternator cannot keep up with the discharge of your battery during bass hits, how do you think it will help by adding another component for it to charge? It will not help. Caps are useless for everyday stereos. You would be better off putting caps on your headlights. Do the Big 3 and and upgraded battery...you will be fine. If you run more power, then look into a larger alternator.

Grounding.... Something like this, but you can do your own for a lot less.

Big 3???
Definition: the "Big Three" upgrade means improving the current capacity of three cables: 1) alternator positive to battery positive, 2) battery negative to chassis, and 3) engine ground to chassis. Some people replace the factory wiring; others add additional cables to the factory wiring. This instruction is to add cables to existing OEM wiring
I've never had one problem after doing this.

So its just replacing the Factory cables with bigger gauge ones.

WHATS THE BIG 3?
better grounding for the electrical system. 3 wires from chassis to engine, chassis to battery and I think the last is chassis to alternator. I don't remember exactly.
Positive from battery to Alt, Negative from Battery to Chassis, Negative from Engine block to chassis

well i will tell you 750amps aint nothin for a L7.... i got 2 15" L7's running off a MMATS2100.2 and it beats good..... i suggest to run atleast a 1000w rms mono amp to it.... get your moneys worth and use of the L7....
along with the big 3 upgrade as well,,,,,,

Yeah I've switched my plans and bought 2 12's off of a member here ( i think he ripped me off) LMAO I'm kidding Ty, ordered the amp yesterday and should have it completed this weekend.

I've always been told that caps are a waste of money, they just store power like a battery. I've always used an Optima battery on my sytems and had no dim in the lights. In my last truck I ran 4 15's with 1200 watts with the battery and had no problems.

Glad to see there's no hard feelings lol!!!
I'm going to see how the lights are, if they dim I'll invest in an Optima Yellow Top!!!

What Kind Of Wiring Should I Use For The Big 3?
I recommend 1/0 gauge. I get my wires from http://knukonceptz.com
