I installed my HIDs the past weekend (low and fogs, 6000K) and, as always, I feel the need to install a relay for the HID...just to be safe. Always have on my personal vehicles as well as the busa and other peoples. I did a little bit of reading first and saw that either use a relay or get DRL Killer to remove teh DRLs which I very much wanted to anyways....

Long story short, after installing the relay and HIDs, I wanted to do the quad-beam mod so my low and high's stay on when I hit my high beams. Last night as I pulled into my drive way I tried the "flash to pass" and HIDs stayed on. Then tried high beams and stayed on as well. Only thing that goes off is my fogs for either one, but that's just a jumper wire away. Everything else I've read says you have to switch pins on a harness, use the harness under the back seat, use an additional relay, or solder 2 wires together... This all works with a simple relay....kills DRLs, allows quad beam and safer for HIDs...plus the autoheadlights still work as well. :)

So, are you saying just by doing the 'relay' mod--you get quad headlights for free?

I didn't try the high beams before the HID install, so "maybe" 08's come that way stock? But I have tried them on both "flash to pass" and "high beam" and both work with no problems. I can give you a pinout of the relay, so all you do is need one and hook it up via the pinout and you're good as gold. :)

Trying to figure out a fog light fix so they come on when the lows are on, while retaining on/off ability with the fog light switch...

Pin 85: Pink Wire from headlight switch harness
Pin 86: +12V Battery
Pin 30: +12V Battery
Pin 87: To HID ballasts (For + side, ground them to frame)

You do not need to remove headlight switch(or dash), I was able to follow the harness down from there so all you do is have to remove the lower dash piece (under steering wheel part)

So, you are doing the 'MikeG' method, as I understand it.

Very interesting...

Now what connectors are you using when running Pin 87 (12v) to the + side of the ballast...are you cutting off the connector?

Thanks,
-Mike

I believe you are correct sir. :) I know the relay method as been covered, but from reading on the forums it never said that you get quadbeams out of it too. :) Also, when others were doing the other quadbeam method you lose the headlight delay, but this seems to retain everything. Definitely didn't discover anything new, but discovered other pluses to the Mike G. method! :)

Did you have to cut any connector off of the ballast's harness?

Yep I did cut that connector off and butt-connected it onto the hot wire. Just grounded it with an existing bolt to the frame.

I did the lancematic DRL killer and it did not automatically initialize quad beams. (fyi)

HIDS coming soon, I got 5000k's sitting right here!!

Quadbeam must be an extra on 08's stock. I just didn't realize it until I did the relay method and tried to use them.

My 08 only has quad on flash to pass not high, but I am going to solve that problem without cutting any harness, I just have to attach an O-scope to the headlights to find out what I need to do.

All I did was wire a relay that is triggered from headlight switch, put diode from fog to headlight switch wire and that allows my fogs to come on by themselves, for my fogs to automatically come on with my low beams and when I flash or use high beams, all 6 lights stay on. :)

Could you write up a quick picture of what wires to tie into and what everything would look like? I'm eletrically challenged when it comes to wiring up relays. :)

Honestly there's no need for pictures. Just flip the relay over and you'll see the pin numbers of the relay. If you follow the harness from the headlight and look inside the bundle of wires there's a pink one you need to tape into.

I'll be doing this soon when I put in the hid's. :)
