On my last set of chrome wheels, I cleaned them then used scotch brite on the inner barrels to roughen them up. Then brushed on rust oleum gloss black paint and had no problems with chipping or flaking. Much easier to keep clean and made the chrome face of the wheel pop much more. On my new Fikses, I am going to wire brush the the inner barrels and have them powder coated clear.
