I've had to rebuild mine twice over the years. No hard parts broke. The clutches were wearing out and some chipped teeth on the gears and noisy bearings, but that is with who knows how many hundred of track passes.

Advice- make sure you get both tires equally wet before doing your burnout. If one tire doesn't spin or one grabs before the other its really tough on the clutches.

I know this is an old thread- The clutches recently went out in mine again. I also replaced it with a truetrac posi unit. Much better now. Both wheels pull equally. Should give better 60fts now too.

How much/hard are the clutches to change? Mine hits a single wheel every now and again. Are they about the same setup as a 8.8?

This is the style of the Eaton stock locker. The Clutches can be replaced. I have not rebuilt any though. We have used the Detroit TrueTrac replacement with great success.
